Motorola Has Released 3 News Phone Models This Year (2023)

Soon, the US market will see the arrival of two new affordable Motorola smartphones, the Moto G Stylus, and Moto G 5G, as well as a new high-end device, the Motorola Edge Plus.

Motorola has updated both its affordable and high-end phone lineups by introducing new versions of its flagship phones, which bring top-notch features to the more affordable devices. The new phones – the Motorola Edge Plus, Moto G Stylus, and Moto G 5G – are essentially updated versions of last year’s models, with a few new features. The company, which is currently ranked third in the US market for phone shipments, is following a steady path. The new devices are priced lower than their predecessors, but some features may have been compromised to achieve these price drops.

Starting May 9th, the Motorola Edge Plus 2023 will be available in a standard black color and can be purchased at Boost Infinite and Boost Mobile, followed by Spectrum Mobile and Consumer Cellular. The phone starts at $799 and will be released unlocked on May 25th for online retailers.

The Moto G 5G, which is priced more affordably, will be available in dark blue and silver gray and starts at $249. It can be purchased starting May 25th from Motorola’s website, select online retailers, and prepaid carriers. In the meantime, the Moto G Stylus 2023 will be accessible in dark blue and radiant pink, begins at $199, and can be bought from Motorola’s website and select online-based retailers.

Out of the three phones, the most eye-catching one is the Motorola Edge Plus 2023, which is essentially the European version of the Motorola Edge 40 Pro that was released last month. Compared to last year’s model, the 2023 Edge Plus comes with some new features, such as an under-display fingerprint sensor and a telephoto lens. The telephoto lens is a returning feature from Motorola’s first Edge Plus premium phone, which was released in 2020.

As is customary for Motorola, there are some variations between the European version of the phone, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, and the upcoming US release, the Motorola Edge Plus 2023. The US model will not have the rapid 125-watt recharging capability seen in the European version, instead capping out at 68 watts. However, the trade-off is that the US model will have a 10% larger battery with a capacity of 5,100mAh.

Featuring a 6.7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels, the Edge Plus comes with HDR10+ and a 165Hz refresh rate, which is technically faster than the 144Hz refresh rate of the previous Edge Plus model. While some may not notice a significant difference, the refresh rate is an improvement worth noting.

The Edge Plus is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is the same one featured in this year’s Samsung Galaxy S23 series. It also comes with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of internal storage, but there is no option for expandable storage via a microSD card. The phone runs on Android 13 and will receive three years of updates and four years of security updates, twice a month. Additionally, the Edge Plus supports 68-watt wired charging, and 15-watt wireless charging, and can recharge other devices at a rate of 5 watts.

Featuring a triple rear camera setup, the Edge Plus includes a 50-megapixel, f1.8 primary shooter, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera with a 114-degree field of view, and a 12-megapixel 2x optical zoom camera. The phone also comes with a 60-megapixel, f2.2 front-facing camera, and can record 4K videos at 60fps using both the primary and ultrawide cameras.

This year’s iteration of the Moto G 5G 2023 phone offers significant upgrades, including the addition of stereo speakers instead of just one speaker in last year’s models. The phones also come with faster refresh rates on their screens, resulting in smoother scrolling for users.

Motorola’s Moto G 5G 2023 is a cost-effective 5G phone that features a design change with square edges, giving it a resemblance to Apple’s latest flagship models (with the exception of its all-black color scheme). This budget-friendly smartphone has a 6.5-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1,600×720 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, providing a smoother experience than the 90Hz refresh rate on last year’s Moto G 5G 2022 model.

The Moto G 5G 2023 features a Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G chipset, 4GB of RAM, and storage options of 64GB or 128GB, which can be expanded up to 1TB using a microSD card. Although this year’s model has 2GB less RAM than last year’s Moto G 5G, the price has significantly dropped from $400 to $250. The device maintains a 5,000-mAh battery with a 15-watt charging speed, but the included charger in the box is only 10 watts.

Motorola Moto G Stylus 2023

Motorola has released the latest version of its most popular budget phone, the Moto G Stylus 2023, which comes with a stylus for added functionality. The phone has a 6.5-inch display capable of a 90Hz refresh rate, slightly smaller than the 6.8-inch screen found on the previous year’s G Stylus.

In an effort to reduce its price tag, several specs of the Moto G Stylus 2023 have been downgraded compared to last year’s model. The new variant runs on a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and either 64GB or storage of 128GB (expandable up to 1TB through a microSD card), which is a downgrade from last year’s G Stylus with an Helio G88 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and a baseline storage of 128GB. However, the two rear cameras remain the same with a 48-megapixel main shooter, a 2-megapixel macro depth lens for portrait shots, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.
